What does a distance Reiki session look like?

It’s much simpler than you might expect. You only have to make yourself comfortable. It helps to put some attention on your breath or follow/focus on any sensations or pain you might be having in your body.

Some people feel little in Reiki sessions and fall asleep, others might experience sensations, emotional responses, twitching, or even shaking and involuntary verbal responses. This is all completely normal. In my experience, the best thing to do is to keep breathing and encourage these sensations and emotions to release. Don’t fight them.

I have pretty extreme reactions to releases and notice thoughts coming up often out of nowhere that then release.

As the practitioner, I’ll use a surrogate, a doll or teddy (I know it’s silly, but it works! And helps me focus), to send the Reiki to various areas of your body and energy systems. I tend to be able to feel where emotions

Prepare for your session

  • Suggestion: if you’re able and have time, do a little movement (shake, dance, yoga) for 10 to 15 min before your session. This’ll support loosening the energies in your body. Not a mandatory activity, but it can’t hurt.

  • Drink a glass of water.

  • If possible, three to five minutes before your treatment, find a comfortable place to sit or lie down where you won’t be disturbed for the duration of the session.

  • If necessary, set a timer for the end of your session in case you fall asleep.

  • Take three to five deep breaths.

  • In your mind’s eye start at your feet and scan your body, limb by limb, up to your skull, this induces a state of relaxation.

  • Then focus on your breath noticing any sensations or thoughts that come to you through the session.

  • Drink another glass of water and stay hydrated.
